Ivan B. Djordjevic received the Ph.D. degree from the University of Nis, Yugoslavia, in 1999.

He held appointments with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England in U.K., Tyco Telecommunications in USA, the National Technical University of Athens in Greece, and State Telecommunication Company in Yugoslavia. He is currently a Professor of electrical and computer engineering and optical sciences with The University of Arizona, the Director of the Optical Communications Systems Laboratory (OCSL) and the Quantum Communications (QuCom) Laboratory, and the Co-Director of the Signal Processing and Coding Laboratory. He has authored or coauthored eight books, and more than 540 journal and conference publications, and holds 54 U.S. patents.

Dr. Djordjevic is an IEEE Fellow and OSA Fellow. He serves as an Area Editor/Associate Editor/member of the Editorial Board for the following journals: the IEEE COMMUNICATIONS LETTERS, the OSA/IEEE JOURNAL OF OPTICAL COMMUNICATIONS AND NETWORKING, the Journal of Optics (IOP), Physical Communication Journal (Elsevier), Optical and Quantum Electronics (Springer), and Frequenz (De Gruyter).
